Research Fellow Opportunity at Southampton Solent University

Are you passionate about groundbreaking research in biomarkers for respiratory health? Southampton Solent University has an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to join our dynamic Biomedical Science team. This role focuses on exploring innovative biomarkers for preschool wheezing and the development of asthma later in life.

About the Project:
Funded by Asthma + Lung UK, this project aims to identify a panel of microRNAs that can predict preschool wheezing and the progression to asthma. The successful candidate will develop cutting-edge approaches to define these miRNA panels, providing critical insights into early diagnosis and prediction of asthma in newborns and young children. This research will be both fundamentally significant and impactful in the field of respiratory health.

What You'll Do:

  • Drive innovative research to identify miRNAs linked to preschool wheezing and asthma.
  • Plan, organize, and execute research activities, and present key findings.
  • Collaborate closely with staff and students in our active Biomedical Science community at Southampton Solent University, as well as with colleagues from the University of Southampton and NHS partners.

What We Offer:

  • 18-month full-time position, based in the RM Building at our vibrant Southampton campus, with the possibility of extension subject to additional funding.
  • Generous annual leave allowance.
  • A chance to make a real difference in the field of paediatric respiratory health.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • A PhD in genetics, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related field is required.
  • However, we also welcome applications from MSc holders or close to completion PhD students (will be appointed as senior research assistant) with substantial experience in miRNA research, especially those with a strong publication record in this area.
